Sorrow
"Too bad about Ryuu, huh?"
A depressed "Yeah..." was all that came out of his mouth.
"Come on, now. Cheer up. I'm sure Ryuu's been like this before, hasn't he? Things will get better in the end."
He stayed silent for a while. He chuckled, "Yeah... I guess so. Stuff like this happens between brothers all the time, so it's no big deal!" I can't believe he said that so enthusiastically, how he cheered up right away. I felt kind of mad at him.
I walked away a little while his back was still turned. "Ah, brothers..." I mused.
He chuckled again. "If only you knew." ...What was that? Was he making fun of me?
"Yeah... You know, I'm kinda of envious of you two. Having a close relationship with your family..." My chance. I took the small hidden blade out.
"Well," he turns around, "maybe you'll be able to get that chance som-" Something cut his words off. His smile quickly turns into a look of shock. I did it. I finally did it. I quickly force the blade out as he falls.
Somehow, during those mere seconds, I felt... remorseful. I've been doing this for years. This shouldn't faze me anymore. So why..?
He looks up to me as the blood from his wound spreads. "Ah... so... you actually did it..." he says weakly. I still can't believe that he was still smiling. In his final moments. This isn't what they call a peaceful death, he shouldn't be treating it like one.
"Judging by your words, I guess my suspicions were correct. You really did know."
"Yeah... the whole time."
I looked at him with bewilderment. "You should have known this would happen eventually. You put me in a position that was so close to you that you would have made it too easy for me. Yet you sat idly by and did nothing about it. I wonder why?"
Again, he stayed silent for a moment. He was still smiling. His eyes looked sad though. "Because... I had faith in you."
"...Faith? Haru... Don't give me that bullshit. That doesn't make any sense." I was furious. I started yelling at him. "You ignored the fact that I was incognito, the fact that I would kill you someday, the fact that I was the enemy this whole time, because you had faith in me!?"
He chuckled. Again. "Damn it, what are you so happy about!? Stop laughing this off, this isn't funny! Don't you care that you're going to die!?"
Finally, he looked back at me with a grim look on his face, calmly saying, "I don't care what happens to me. I still have faith in you; faith that you'll turn around. But..." his tone of voice had changed into a more... sinister one, the kind of tone he uses whenever he was angry, when he said the next words, "if you ever dare to hurt Ryuu, I'll never forgive you..."
Something... broke inside me. I was shocked when I heard that coming out of his mouth. I immediately started running away. I don't know why, but I felt... hurt. I felt regret. I felt like there was no hope for me left anymore. I felt like saying, "What have I done?"
