The Second Coming

Author: Seth

Just as there is a First, so must there be a Second. Man is now free of his Fate, free to follow the path that he, and he alone, chooses.

Until he ends that is.

Fate has been laid low once, and that it shall never forgive, nor forget. It will do whatever it must to seize retribution, even if that means wielding what little power it has left when man is at his weakest.

The soul. Ones essence, ones being, all that one is. Ones cage. For eons have the souls of humanity spun about their endless cycle guided by the hands of Fate. The only exceptions are the ghosts and Shinigami, damned to wander endlessly until they weaken and are drawn back into the cycle.

The Dragon is no more, for nothing is eternal, yet its children survive. This is their tale, the tale of how they rose from the ashes to complete what their predecessors started centuries before.

Progeny

“Raine, you know a bunch about legends an’ stuff right?”

“I do indeed. Was there one you were interested in?”

“I was wondering if you could tell me anything about The Wind of Death?”

Sentinel

“…”

“Don’t give me that look. You got your second chance, what more do you want?”

“That’s rich coming from you. You where there when she died. I know.”

“But I didn’t try and prevent it. I let her go. You’ve got to do the same.”

“Let who go? Her, or her?”

“Both of them. You’ve done your part, now it’s time for you to join the rest of us in our vigil.”

Castaway

“It’s like my very own Pandora’s Box. It’s got the answer to everything, and yet sometimes I wonder if I really do want to remember…”

“Whatever you choose, what ever you’ve done, we’re here for you. Remember that alright?”

“Yeah, I know. I think I’ll leave it closed just a while longer…”

Pillar

“I’ll always be here for you, you know. No matter what happens.”

A giggle.

“I know, I know. You’ve only told me every third day.”

A reproachful look.

“Hey now, don’t be like that. You know I won’t forget. Ever.”

Bean

“Do you ever wonder if we'll ever make it? I mean sometimes I think about it and the chances seem-"

“Meaningless. The chances are meaningless. We are Trifecta. We are the long odds. We are still here. Know why? It’s because we are family. As long as we have each other, we will never fall.”

Stray

“Do you ever wonder they really loved us?”

“Of course they did. Why wouldn’t they?”

“Maybe because we-“

“We don’t even know what it is, what would it mean to them?”

“Maybe they knew. Maybe it scared them. Maybe that’s why they left us.”

“They didn’t leave us, we lost them. It’s better that way.”

Chronicler

“You’re going to have to choose one of these days. Just like the rest of us.”

“I don’t-“

“You know perfectly well what I’m talking about. You can’t save everyone.”

“But-“

“It’ll tear you apart. I don’t care which one you choose, but please, choose one before it destroys you.”

Vessel

“Sometimes I wonder… I wonder if I really am who I am. Am I the original, or am I the proxy, the surrogate? Am I simply a mere scapegoat to be thrown away once he no longer finds me useful?”

“What does it matter? Original. Substitute. In the end, you’re you. That’s all I need.”

Throughout time the Nine wind, reappearing whenever humanity’s freedom is at stake, and so the cosmic irony plays out. Fighting ever to keep humanity from Fate’s grasp, yet more beholden to Fate then any ever were, or ever will be.
