Nemesis

Author: Lariat

Yes, it was that day, that incident, that I came to hate him forever. I decided that he was my mortal enemy from then on.

I remember it as clear as day. Back when there were crews of orphans who stole to live. All in competition of each other, some in alliance with one another. I remember, my crew ran into his crew. The fateful day that started it all.

"We were there first, you know. So it's only fair that we get the food, not you guys." said the leader of his crew.

"You wish, pipsqueak. We got the heist before you guys, something that you couldn't do. So get lost." said the leader of my crew.

"Pipsqueak!? You're just as tall as me, you know!" said the boy, stomping around like a spoiled child who didn't get the toy he wanted.

"Manari... come on, let's just leave these guys alone. We still have fish from yesterday, we can eat that..."

"How can you say that, Haru!? You give up too easily!"

Now, I was sitting there, just eating. I didn't really care what happened. If a fight broke out, then no problem; I would usually be the one to scare them off. So it didn't really matter what happened, so long as we kept our food. But, this time it was different.

I glanced over to the rest of his crew and I saw that guy, plotting. The little mastermind of it all. I saw him sneak away from his crew, off setting up his devious plan into motion. I already grew suspicious.

He came back sometime later, breaking up the argument between the two leaders, and whispered into his leader's ear, his plan of evil, a plan that put an excited smile on his leader's face.

"Really!? How did you do that!? I bet Aniki helped you, didn't he!?"

"Nah, just... a good friend of mine. Let's go home for today. We still have fish from yesterday, we can eat that."

"Aw, you're just like your brother. Fine." His leader looked back at us, shouting taunting words. "We'll get you back for stealing our food! Just you wait!" I swear that I saw a little devious smirk on that guy's face when he looked back at us too.

After that, I told the rest of my crew of my suspicions and we all agreed to be careful from now on whenever we might end up running into those guys again. I thought nothing bad was going to happen if we just stuck to that. I was wrong.

The next day happened. It was a blur. All of us were still trying to process in our heads as to what just happened to us. All of those chain of events happening so fast, and before realizing it, we ended up in the sewage canal, all covered in pig manure. Then, I heard the two most annoying sounds in my entire life. Just up on the bridge above us, there was one kid laughing his little silver-haired head off and another kid shouting taunting words at us.

"Buta~ Buta~ Buta crew~ Pig crew~ All of you are pigs now~ Buta crew~"

It was that guy. That same guy from before. The little clever asshole who set this all up for us since yesterday. The evil mastermind I came to hate forever. From then on, he was my mortal enemy.

So before I knew it, I screamed in rage and anger because we ended up being humiliated. I threw the largest thing to a rock I could find nearby at them. That thing missed them because they ducked and destroyed a part of the other side of the bridge they were standing on. I chased them with the second largest thing to a rock that I could find nearby.

From then on, he was my mortal enemy.
