Abandoned

Author: Seth

"I'd rather have a friend who would save my life than a family who would cut me loose to save face."

"We don't know-"

A hand, quite literally, slammed into the granite table, producing a cloud of dust and a crack that ran the length of the smooth surface.

"Bullshit! Those… those things came out of the east. That's Gryphos territory and you damn well know it!"

Ravage pinched the bridge of his nose. This wasn't his domain, it wasn't his domain at all, and if he could have had someone else standing in his place he would. Someone that didn't wield words like a frying pan.

"There's no solid proo-"

"Half of those monsters were Gryphanes! What more proof do you need?"

Of course the brass refused point blank to meet with anyone of lower station than himself, so it was up to him to discover some kind of diplomatic solution to this mess. He wasn't having much luck.

"Of course over half of them were Gryphanes, the outbreak occurred right next to the Capital!" Ravage shouted exasperatedly. "Even a quarter of them were drakes, and that there was at least one member of each clan in that group." He continued, trying to steamroll any opposition that might present itself. "I'm telling you it's a completely independent-"

"And I'm telling you you're full of shit!" the greying drake in front of Ravage put his fist down a second time. "That army didn't touch a single Gryphos settlement, and yet they annihilated the first Drakonii village they came across. If that doesn't tell you that they're under orders from the Gryphanes I don't know what does."

"I told," The Jericho Commander tiredly let his face drop into his palm. "They were provoked. One of my operatives was an eye witness."

"Yes, a Panthryan, and a known traitor." The aging drake snorted.

Ravage sighed. He had been fighting a losing battle from the start anyways. The moment the Gryphanes had stepped on Drakonii territory there really wasn't anything he could do to stop the eventual route, but he still had to try. Especially when one of his soldiers was part of that army, and had information that he needed.

"It's not a Gryphane faction," Ravage shook his head. "The group is shadowy, and prefers to catch people unawares. It's not their style."

"You would know wouldn't you?" The elder drake sneered.

Ravage winced, and knew that nothing else he said would have any weight behind it. Rising stiffly from the table the decorated soldier left without another word. It would seem that his clan had well and truly abandoned him.
