Memory
"Have you ever woken up and questioned who you are?"
A small spray of water splashed across his face as he caught the small, metal can that had been thrown at him. Cracking the tab open, he placed the beverage to his lips and took a deep swig, taking an extra moment to savour the delightfully crunchy pieces of aloe that were floating in the liquid. Taking a second, more reserved sip, he held the can up to his face and frowned thoughtfully.
"You bought this?" He raised a silver eyebrow at his twin who was drinking from her own can. It wasn't a question.
"Felt like it." She shrugged, rolling the cool metal cylinder between her palms.
"Mind elsewhere?" He chuckled, gumming on another mouthful of aloe.
"No more than yours is." She retorted, a little more sharply than she had meant to.
He gulped down his aloe and sighed. She was right of course, but then how could she not be when it would be obvious to even the common passer by that they were both a little… rattled after their last encounter. It wasn't that they had both very nearly died, they were far too used to that experience for it too unnerve them overmuch. No, what had set both their nerves on edge had much more to do with whom they had been fighting with.
"Think they're getting the same… vibes we are?" He finished his drink and balanced the empty can on his finger.
She shrugged again, taking a tentative sip of her refreshment. "Yes, no, maybe? Who knows?" She chewed speculatively on a piece of aloe. "I honestly couldn't care less what they're feeling right now. I'm more worried about what we are feeling. And why."
"It's... worrying." He held the can up to his eye, trying to see if he'd missed any pieces of the succulent plant. "I've never seen her in my life, yet I get this feeling that I should know her, that I should trust her." He snorted scornfully at the idea. There was only one girl he trusted fully, and as far as he was concerned, it was going to stay that way.
"Mine's different..." She watched his face out of the corner of her eye, waiting for some kind of reaction. "It's like he's got something I had, something that's calling to me."
His eyes hardened as he crushed the can in his fist. He didn't know what these feelings were, but they were going to get to the bottom of them, one way or another.
